The guards ran the full perimeter, and enough debris had worked its way underneath and into the system that the gutters weren't draining the way they should. The house sits in a stretch of suburban DuPage County where mature trees are the norm, and the accumulation showed it.
Our technician was on site at eight in the morning and worked through the guards section by section, lifting and clearing rather than simply blowing across the top. The clogged elbows at the downspout connections required extra attention — debris had compacted enough to block flow entirely, and each one had to be cleared by hand before water could move through freely. It was slower going than a standard clean, but the added time was the job. By the time he finished, every run was open and draining, and the guards were set back in place.
